Anushka Sharma is surely not a competitive girl. Some time ago she praised Katrina Kaif to the skies after watching ‘Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara’. And now she has extended the olive branch of friendship to none other than arch rival Deepika Padukone.
Rumours say that as soon as she walked out the theatre screening ‘Cocktail’ the first person she sent a congratulatory message to was Deepika Padukone. It’s quite a surprising move considering the two girls have been avoiding each other like the plague! The bone of contention here, being none other than Ranbir Kapoor.
But apparently Deepika is so pleased about the message that she’s decided to forgive and forget. A friend of hers says, “She immediately thanked Anushka, since her performance as Veronica in Cocktail is very special to her.”
There was a time when Deepika would lose her temper at the mere mention of Anushka. The Sharma girl got a little too close for comfort with Ranbir, just after he broke up with Dips. Going a step further, she apparently also pushed for Ayaan Mukherji’s ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ with the actor. But Dips managed to pip her at the post and get the film instead.
We guess time, as they say, heals all wounds. Anushka is now happily holidaying with boyfriend Ranveer Singh in Spain, with all thoughts of Ranbir being a thing of the past. Ranbir himself is pining for Kat Kaif. Dips, is without a boyfriend which, she says, is the best place for her to be right now!
Diwali time is considered to be one of the most lucrative for Bollywood as it’s the festive plus holiday season . It’s a particularly favourable period for Shah Rukh Khan who has always tried to have a movie release during this time.
But this year, it seems King Khan will have tough competition from none other than Ajay Devgn. Reports say that Shah Rukh Khan’s next film with Katrina Kaif (being directed by Yash Chopra) will clash directly at the box office with Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Son Of Sardaar’. Both films are likely to release on November 14.
Box office pundits claim SRK has an edge over Devgn in the matters as more more than half of the theatres have been reportedly booked for his film.
"Yashji's film has already been signed for all the cinemas across India which is playing ‘Ek Tha Tiger’. That takes away the best ones," Akshaye Rathi, fourth generation exhibitor and distributor, tweeted.
"Firstly, being a SRK-Yashji combo, one can safely assume maximum shows will go to that film. It will approximately be a 70:30 ratio. And it is a practice that is followed by few producers when they have big releases back to back," another report stated.
YRF's spokesperson have been quoted as saying: "YRF has been dealing with the same theatre owners through our distribution offices over the last 40 years and all of them would be more than happy to screen a Yash Chopra film, coming after a gap of eight years, without any reservation."
Incidentally, Diwali has been lucky for Ajay Devgn too. His ‘Golmaal Returns’ (2008), ‘All The Best’ (2009) and ‘Golmaal 3’ all released during this period and had hit the bulls eye. His only exception is ‘Rascals’ (2011) which was a flop. Ajay has downplayed the competition and feels there is scope for all films to do well. “I don't know about their (YRF's) film, but ‘SOS’ is a comic love story with lots of action, a perfect festival film," the actor said.
Well, we can’t wait for this November when the two box office titans will clash.
Ekta Kapoor is a smart woman. While she has been producing hit films of late, she knows that no one stands a chance opposite the mighty Aamir. And that’s precisely the reason why she has decided to push the release date of her much-awaited movie ‘Shootout At Wadala’ to 2013 to avoid any clash with Aamir Khan's 'Talaash'. She frankly admits that she doesn't want to take on such 'mammoth' competition.
"'Talaash' is coming on Nov 30. How can we decide to take on the mammoth Aamir Khan? I don't want to compete with him, absolutely not," Ekta told reporters in Mumbai.
'Shootout At Wadala', a prequel to 'Shootout At Lokhandwala', was earlier supposed to release Dec 7. But since Aamir's 'Talaash' will either release in November-end or in the first week of December, 'Shootout At Wadala' will now hit the screens Jan 18, 2013.
'Shootout At Wadala' has Anil Kapoor, John Abraham, Kangna Ranaut, Sonu Sood and Manoj Bajpai in the lead roles.
It’s more for professional than personal reasons say sources
Bipasha Basu is on a slippery terrain professionally with none of her recent releases doing well at the box office. So she is now going the tried and tested route that most actress opt for – befriend a powerful actor!
Sources say two heroes in particular are on Bipasha’s radar currently – Salman Khan and Shahid Kapoor. Apparently, Bips seems to be on a patch-up spree with actors with whom she had maintained a distance during her decade-long relationship with John Abraham.
Last week, she met rumoured ex flame Shahid Kapoor over a lavish dinner that continued till the wee hours of the morning. Almost the very next day she was spotted dining with none other than Salman Khan at a Michelin-star restaurant in Bandra.
Eyewitnesses say that she and Salman (with whom she had worked in ‘No Entry’) were chatting like old friends. Earlier she had maintained her distance from the ‘Dabangg’ actor because of his problems with her then boyfriend John.
The buzz is that this may have something to do with Bipasha’s career goals. Since she doesn’t have too many films in her kitty now, sources say, it’s a good idea to bond with top heroes who have a huge say in casting in films.
While Bipasha didn’t comment on the issue, it remains to be seen if her attempts at networking will yield to something more concrete in terms of a film offer.
It looks like finally Preity Zinta is getting busy with films. The star who was more in the news for her IPL team and had also found herself in several controversies was almost written off in Bollywood. She was in the news for producing a film set in Paris. But now after brushing up her French etiquettes, Preity will undergo a makeover and play a Varanasi-based wife in Neeraj Pathak's ‘Bhaiyyaji Superhit’ with Sunny Deol.
Preity has been cast as a gangster's daughter and Sunny’s loud and aggressive wife, and she'd have to practise hard for her part. The role apparently requires her to talk fast in the local accent. Director Neeraj Pathak has been quoted as saying, "Preity plays a Varanasi ki ladki with a local accent. She is super-excited about the role."
Sunny too is excited to have Preity as his co-star. He had starred with the dimpled beauty in Anil Sharma's ‘The Hero’ where she had played a Kashmiri girl when Preity was just starting out in Bollywood.
Salman Khan’s ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, releasing on Eid all over the world is one of the most awaited films of the year. It is also perhaps Salman’s most controversial films with several objections to the movie coming from different quarters.
Now, just a month before the movie releases, trouble has reared its head for Yash Raj Films in the form of a legal notice. A leading newspaper reports that the notice has been sent by Vikram Vashishtha, who's the nephew of real life spy (late) Ravindra Kaushik, asking the makers for a special screening of the film. The copies of the legal notice have also been sent to Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Film & TV Producers Guild and Film Federation of India.
Vashishtha has claimed that his uncle (late) Ravindra Kaushik, was with working with RAW (Research Analysis Wing), and had participated in a national level dramatic meet held in Lucknow, where a few intelligence officers saw his performance and were greatly impressed by it. The officials then allegedly contacted Kaushik, who was later sent on a secret intelligence mission.
But what has that got to do with ‘Ek Tha Tiger’? Vashishtha has alleged that the promos of the film bear a striking resemblance to his uncle's experiences and hence his family has sought legal assistance to either have a look at the original script or see the film before it releases nationwide.
Is it just another case of seeking publicity or a genuine concern? We are sure that this is the last thing that Salman and Co. would want before a film’s release!
Kareena Kapoor is arguably going through the best phase in her career. With ‘Heroine’ and later ‘Talaash’ up for release this is definitely a make or break year for her especially considering how the competition in the form of Deepika, Anushka, Katrina and Vidya is heating up. Perhaps that’s the reason why she feels getting married right now might not be such a good idea after all.
The buzz from Bollywood is that Kareena has decided to play it safe and reportedly is having second thoughts about her October wedding to Saif Ali Khan after the discouraging industry response to her plans. For instance, Sanjay Leela Bhansali had openly said that he doesn’t want a ‘married heroine’ to play Juliet in his ‘Ram Leela’ after Bebo walked out of the film at the last moment.
Sources say Bebo knows that at this point of time it wouldn’t be wise for her to give any ground to her rivals and feels she might not get quality films if she is married. Being the understanding boyfriend, Saif is apparently willing to compromise.
Sharmila Tagore who had sounded excited about the October 16 wedding earlier, also admitted to a newspaper that the wedding might not happen as planned.
Incidentally, this is the second time that the marriage has been postponed. Earlier it was said that they would tie the knot after the release of ‘Agent Vinod’.
Whatever be the case, this is just another twist in the ‘will they won’t they’ Saif-Kareena marriage story.
