‘Race 2′ has been most challenging: Jaqueline Fernandez

Actress Jaqueline Fernandez considers “Race 2″ as her most challenging film and says a lot of hard work has gone into it.

“It is the most negative character I have played. It is very challenging to do something like that. I had to tackle each scene with an underlying thought that the character is concealing a deep dark secret. Every character is dark and that is the beauty of the film,” she said in an interview.

“It is a nice change. It’s something new to try. It was very challenging. To be this evil person and be negative, you have to work on yourself,” she added.

Comparing “Race 2″ to her previous hit “Housefull 2″, Jaqueline said: “‘Housefull 2′ was like a walk in the park. It was fun, everyone was having a good time. Everything was spontaneous. ‘Race 2′ is more calculative, you have to rehearse. You need to understand that certain messages need to be sent to the audience. So ‘Race 2′ was most challenging.”

With so many films crossing the Rs.100-crore-mark, Jaqueline feels the term is overrated now.

“I feel that a lot of films have crossed Rs.100 crore now, I think it has become overrated. Now we should talk about Rs.200 crore,” she said.

Asked how does she go about choosing scripts, Jaqueline said: “I don’t have any strategy, I just took whatever came my way. It just happened that these were fantastic offers which just came my way. Things have really started shaping up for me,” she said.

Directed by Abbas-Mustan, “Race 2″ also features Saif Ali Khan, John Abraham, Anil Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ameesha Patel in prominent roles. – IANS

‘Satyamev Jayate’ has taken me closer to reality: Aamir Khan

Superstar Aamir Khan says that his hugely popular television series “Satyamev Jayate” has taken him closer to the reality of life in India.

“The show has brought me in touch with reality and taught me so much in the last two years that it can never be measured in money,” he said on the “Aap ki Adalat” show.

“As creative persons we entertain people, but we also feel we have to contribute to our society by bringing about improvement in the social fabric and inculcate better values,” he said.

“Two things are required to change India: one, all of us should change our attitude towards females, and two, we should not be self-centric and think about working in the larger interest.”

The actor admits he is an emotional person and often cried while working on the “Satyamev Jayate” show.

“I wept several times while shooting for ‘Satyamev Jayate’ and the shooting had to be halted. It was terrible when common people narrated their woes.

“Even when I go abroad, I feel homesick and start weeping,” he said.

The actor added that police had provided security to Mahvish, widow of Abdul Hakim, a resident of Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh who was apparently killed by his wife’s family.

The couple had appeared in an episode of “Satymev Jayate” and spoken against honour killings.

Aamir said all five accused in the killing have been arrested and Mahvish, who is pregnant, was now getting police protection.

A doctor and a nurse have been assigned to take care of the widow, and if required she may be given treatment in a Delhi hospital, he added. – IANS

Vidya Balan’s wedding plans speed up ‘Ghanchakkar’ schedule

The entire schedule of romantic comedy “Ghanchakkar” is said to have been planned in accordance to its lead actress Vidya Balan’s real life wedding plans.

In fact, her work in “Ghanchakkar” is being rush-completed in time for her wedding preparations. She is reportedly tying the knot with Siddharth Roy Kapur, managing director – Studios, Disney UTV, this month.

“It seems Vidya and Mr. Kapoor had chalked out the wedding plans long in advance. The only film that Vidya is currently shooting is ‘Ghanchakkar’. And since it is produced by UTV, it was convenient to co-ordinate her shooting schedule with her wedding date,” said a source.

The sources reveals that director Rajkumar Gupta, who has to be in his hometown Hazaribagh in Jharkhand for his younger brother’s wedding this week, would now have to rush back for last three days of Vidya’s shooting Dec 12-15.

After this, Vidya would take a longish sabbatical before returning to work, the source added.

Vidya’s work in “Ghanchakkar” will be over after the three-day shooting.

“It was all planned well in advance. The director Rajkumar Gupta, who is a very dear friend of Vidya and Emraan Hashmi, whom Vidya gets along with like a house on fire, has fully co-operated in ensuring Vidya completes her work in ‘Ghanchakkar’ before she takes time off,” said the source.

When contacted, Gupta was in the middle of his brother’s wedding festivities.

He admitted he had to rush back to Mumbai for the final three days’ shooting.

“Yes, we’ve to shoot from Dec 12-15. After that I’ve one week-long schedule in January. But Vidya is not required for that,” he said.

Asked if the schedules had to be worked out in-sync with Vidya’s wedding plans, he got evasive, and said: “The schedules were worked out well in advance, so that Vidya’s work was completed by the middle of December. Vidya has been with the project all through, giving a hundred percent of herself.” – IANS

Dilip Kumar at 90: Wife Saira Banu remembers 46 years of love

He never allowed her to hold his hand in public but 46 years of marriage have changed many things, says Saira Banu lovingly of husband-actor-legend Dilip Kumar who turns 90 Tuesday. The celebrations for the landmark birthday will be quiet given the death of some of their closest friends this year.

“This year was a sorrowful year. We lost many dear friends from the industry. So it will be a small celebration at our place with only close friends,” Saira, 68, told IANS in an exclusive conversation.

The family is grieving the death of friends and associates like Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, former union minister N.K.P. Salve, filmmaker Yash Chopra, and actors Rajesh Khanna and Dara Singh, among others.

The Saira Banu-Dilip Kumar story is what Bollywood films are made of – 46 years of togetherness and getting better with time.

“I fell in love with Dilip saheb when I was 12 years old. Beyond my own romance (with him), I can’t see anything. In real life, he is very loving, very polished and a sophisticated man,” Saira told IANS.

They have a 22-year age gap, and have stood like strong pillars of support for each other through thick and thin.

“Since the day Dilip saheb proposed to me, it’s been great… He is the strongest person in my life. He never allowed me to hold his hand in public, but 46 years of our marriage has changed many things. Now we only live for each other,” added the one-time screen scorcher, who still steals romantic moments like an occasional dinner with her husband.

For his milestone birthday, she wishes him a good, healthy and long life.

“I want him to be healthy and happy forever. He is the best person in this world. Dilip saheb is the golden man that god has created. My effort is to keep him and his family happy.

“He is my sartaaj… as you all say, he is my ‘pati parmeshwar’. I am a traditional woman by heart and Dilip saheb is supreme to me,” she said.

Dilip Kumar, a.k.a. Mohammed Yusuf Khan, started his memorable Bollywood journey with the 1944 release “Jwar Bhata”. Thereafter, he went on to give classics like “Madhumati”, “Shaheed”, “Devdas”, “Andaz”, “Amar”, “Mughal-E-Azam”, “Ram Aur Shyam”, “Karma” and “Saudagar”.

He was crowned the Tragedy King of Bollywood for playing a doomed lover in films like “Andaaz”, “Baabul”, “Mela”, “Deedar”, and “Jogan”. His last film was “Quila” in 1998.

The icon that he is, celebrations for his 90th birthday are being planned the world over, says his wife, but he wants it to be a sober affair in Mumbai.

His birthday will be celebrated in Peshawar, the capital of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where he was born before he migrated to India by the Cultural Heritage Council (CHC) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

“In Pakistan, where he used to live, now that place belongs to someone else. But obviously, the people there are very happy and will have a celebration there.

“Not only there, even in London and many other places, people love him and will have a celebration for him. As far as Dilip saheb is concerned, we will have a small get-together with our close family members,” said Saira. – IANS
